The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve aims to preserve a specific natural area located on the Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo.
This reserve has been considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and is one of Mexico’s main carbon reservoirs.
The Sian Ka’an biosphere contains nine different ecosystems, in addition to three aquatic habitats, including the Mesoamerican Reef System shared by Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras.
